Creation as cure

Friends, it’s been a tough week.

The Supreme Court rulings strike at the very heart of the work that I and so many of you do to support equity, opportunity and justice.

As if we needed more proof that white supremacy, racism and privilege are alive and well.

I feel the rage and the despair.  I feel disbelief and outrage.  I struggle to have faith in the long arc of history bending towards justice.

And yet, what choice do we have other than to keep calm and strive on?

This is a battle of a much bigger war.

In this week’s podcast episode with my wise and funny friend Darren Isom, we talk about how to talk about a movement not in opposition to but in support of our desired shared future.

The opposite of war is not peace, it’s creation. (Thanks Jonathan Larson)

When we encounter inequity, we can create connections.

When we encounter injustice, we can create meaningful dialogue.

When we encounter discrimination, we can create community.

When we encounter ugliness, we can create art and beauty.

It is an act of audacity, of courage and of strength to persist for the long game.

Listen in to my conversation with Darren to lift your spirits and light your fire.
