Don’t take that tone with me

Anybody who’s ever been in a relationship knows the importance of voice tone.

The wrong tone could mean the difference between a night of Netflix and chilling or sleeping on the couch alone.

Did you know that 38% of what you communicate comes through your tone of voice, while only 7% are the actual words you say?

The next time you are in an ask or a high-stakes situation, think about your tone.

Is the pitch of your voice high and squeaky?  Communicates immaturity and defensiveness.

Talking too fast? Your message might not be landing.

Volume too high or too low?  People might not be able to hear you or you’re blasting people away.

Most importantly, the timbre of your voice communicates your emotional state.

If you are stressed or tense in an ask, it will show up in your voice and wreck the magical moments of connection.

Take a breath and practice your late night FM DJ voice…low, slow and mellow.

Here’s a sample of Idris Elba and his quiet storm voice.  You’re welcome.
