Back when I was a little baby ED, I was moping around the office because we had not gotten a grant that I was hoping we’d land. My CFO, who was much more seasoned and wiser than I, took one look at my face and my drooping shoulders and issued this decree.
“Rhea, money should not be a mood alterer, either up or down. It’s just money.”
What a revelation. It’s just money. Just little pieces of paper with pictures of dead presidents. It’s just money.
This is something I’m saying to myself as we head into the end of the year. Between blaring headlines, rising inflation, falling stock prices and end of year fundraising goals, it’s easy to freak out.
Take a breath.
It’s just money.
Separate the signal from the noise.
When you feel yourself getting whipsawed by the news, by your board, by your own anxiety, remember that you are the steady leader we need.
There is more than enough money in the world.
Your work and organization create value and resources will come when you are able to articulate your value to the right partners.
It’s just money.
