Mood follows Action

Anybody else have the January blahs?

When you wake up in the morning and you just. Can’t. Even.

I feel you.

We can’t control the way that we feel, but we can control our actions.  So, when you’re feeling blah, try getting up, showering and dressing.  When you’re feeling lazy, go on that walk anyway.

After all, if we sit around waiting for inspiration and motivation to strike to move forward, we might just be waiting forever.

In my Accelerator program, I ask my students to commit to one action per week to move their fundraising goals forward.  We then share how we did at the beginning of every session.

I’ve gotten some feedback that it seems like a waste of time.

In fact, I think it’s a powerful (and very intentional) tactic to focus people’s attention on fundraising.  Often fundraising falls to the bottom of a to-do list, but you can’t plant and harvest on the same day.

The fruits of your fundraising labor will ripen after regular and unglamorous tending to the field over many days, weeks, months and years.

When you’re feeling overwhelmed or stuck, remember it’s one action at a time that brings you closer to the success you seek.

PS: Speaking of fundraising, if you’re ready to take your fundraising to the next level with like-minded peers, my next Fundraising Accelerator cohort starts February 18.  In order to take advantage of the early bird discount, you must enroll by January 31.
