I’ve done yoga for over twenty years, and, like clockwork, every season my body needs something different.
In the winter, let’s be honest, it’s hibernation. I need rest and renewal.
But in the springtime, I need and crave growth and change.
The funny thing is, even if you aren’t in touch with your body, nature gives us some really handy external cues when it’s time to do something different: (i.e, The sun is shining. The birds are chirping. It’s time to stop doing that same old thing you’ve been doing the last few months and get MOVING.)
And it’s the same way with fundraising.
We get comfortable, and a little bit lazy, about how we’re running our operations, our programs, and even our self-care.
Suddenly, it’s time to prepare year-end reports, and we’re looking around ourselves wondering, What did we do all winter, and how on earth did things get so dingy in here?
If you’re feeling a little sluggish in your fundraising efforts and leadership approach, chances are your funders are also waking up, rubbing their eyes, and evaluating whether their dollars are being well spent.
So this is your flashing neon sign that it’s the perfect time for some nonprofit spring cleaning.
But where do you start? How can you infuse your day with a little more energy and organization? And how can you convince donors that you’re stewarding their resources responsibly to create the outcomes that matter deeply to them?
Simple. If you want to make the biggest impact on your energy and the energy of your staff, board, and volunteers, focus on refreshing these three major areas:
- The program
- Fundraising operations.
- Yourself
I promise it’s going to make a world of difference when you do.
Want to find out how you can highlight your program’s impact, clean up your operations, and find time for yourself before the spring rush hits?
