Stop being a baby

Recently, I was on a mastermind call with a bunch of entrepreneurs and I was on the hotseat.

I was venting/complaining/whining about the tedium of churning out content, answering the same kinds of questions and generally the tyranny of routine.

Not only did I get zero sympathy, I got a metaphorical slap across the face.

Which I totally needed and was 100% right.

Mike Kim reminded me that amateurs wait for sparkly inspiration glitter ponies to dance into their hearts in order to create. Professionals show up consistently and do the work whether they feel like it or not.

In other words, stop being a baby.

We choose our work. We choose our lives. Even not choosing is a choice (shout out to Peter Goldwasser!)

It’s an honor and a privilege to do the hard work of making the world a better place, of being a light in the world, of leading communities.

Suck it up. The work is bigger than you.

When you create on behalf of others, it is an act of generosity to show up and work.

You may not feel like writing that annual fund letter.

Do it anyway.

You may not feel like calling that donor.

Do it anyway.

You may feel anxiety about what people will say about your latest campaign, social media post, video.

Do it anyway.

Because when you are a generous professional–not a baby–you show up and let the process save your poverty of your intentions.

Create, ship. Lather, rinse, repeat.
