Who deserves to fund you?

Sometimes nonprofits can get funding because they are the new kid on the block.  With that baby-fresh smell, they can get the dollars and attention because they’re the New Hope.

After a couple of years, what happens when you are not new and the funders want “innovation” and “new programs”?  This is when the tail is wagging the dog and we get caught up in trying to find new things or repackage old things in new ways to get funding.

But, what if we could develop our relationships with funders so that we were truly in partnership?

After all, true partnership looks like weathering the ups and downs and daily business of living.  Would you simply walk away from your spouse just because they didn’t come up with something new every couple of years?

For us to switch our relationships with funders, we must first deeply believe in the value of our work and how we deserve to be treated.  Who deserves to fund you?  YOU are out in the world doing critically important work.

You’re looking for partners who believe what you believe and want the impact you are creating in the world.  Then, and only then, they have earned the right to stand shoulder to shoulder with you.

As a mentor of mine says, “Every ask should be on your feet, never on your knees.”

PS: If you want to learn how to create transformative relationships, build a community of like-minded peers and attract more money to your cause, apply for the Fundraising Accelerator.  Today is our deadline for our last session of 2021.
