When I wrote my book Get That Money, Honey! The No-Bullsh*t Guide to Raising Money for Your Nonprofit, I had a very clear idea of who my reader was.
26-year-old clueless Rhea.
In general, this is an industry that eats its young. We put people into big jobs that they are generally undertrained, under-experienced and/or under-qualified to thrive in. We throw them into shark-infested waters with a leaky liferaft and tell them to make miracles happen.
For those of us who have been around for any amount of time, we wear the scars of battle and carry our fatigue from sleepless nights, fractious boards, unpredictable funders and restless staffers.
Why do we do it? Why not take our talents elsewhere and trade it in for a cushy job and unlimited kombucha?
Because the call to change the world for the better is stronger than our fear of doing hard things.
Who is this book for? It’s for all of the unsung heroes who toil every day to bring resources to important work. It’s for little baby EDs who are long on courage and short on experience. It’s for everyone who has been asked to spin gold out of hay.
In short, it’s for the leaders who need to move capital to move the world.
It’s not perfect. It’s not going to cover every challenge you’ll ever encounter, but it’s a good starting point.
I made it for you.
Let me know what you think.
